Former Liverpool FC ace Jamie Carragher aims brutal dig at Manchester United after FA Cup final

Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher joked that Manchester United fans have been supporting Manchester City for the 'last five seasons' following Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup final defeat at Wembley.

Goals from City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan either side of a Bruno Fernandes penalty were enough to clinch a second trophy of the season for the Blues, keeping their hopes of a historic treble alive. Pep Guardiola's side were the better team throughout the contest, limiting United to very few opportunities.

It meant that United brought the curtain down on their campaign with the knowledge that they had achieved a top four finish and won the Carabao Cup. Though both of those achievements are steps in the right direction, they are still playing catch up to their cross-city rivals.

City have been a dominant force in England for the best part of a decade, often sharing enthralling title races with Liverpool in recent years. And although City are United's closest rivals geographically, Liverpool remain their biggest enemy historically.

And that was why Carragher could not resist having a tongue-in-cheek joke at United's expense shortly after the conclusion of the clash at Wembley. Taking to social media to reinforce a tweet that had been posted by an Arsenal fan account stating that United had been 'supporting' for City rivals in recent times, the Sky Sports pundit could not resist getting involved.

The Arsenal fan account tweeted a joke about United fans wanting City to win the Premier League title at Arsenal's expense this season, just as they did, posting: "Why are Man United fans upset? You've been supporting Man City all season."

Carragher then replied, saying: "The last 5 seasons!" - referring to the battles City and Liverpool have had in the quest to win the Premier League title over the last few years.

With the exception of this season, Liverpool have pushed City fairly close in recent seasons, meaning a lot of United supporters have been eager for for the Blues to pip them to the post. Liverpool finished fifth this term, a whopping 22 points behind City, who won the title with 89 points to their name.
