Former Leeds United assistant Nigel Gibbs has been appointed as first team coach at Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season.
Cristian Stellini was sacked as interim manager on Monday after Tottenham's humiliating 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United, which saw them ship five goals inside the opening 21 minutes. Ryan Mason has been named caretaker boss and will work alongside Gibbs, and Matt Wells, who will take on the role of acting assistant head coach.
Tottenham won only one in four games under Stellini, and have collected just two victories from their last nine across all competitions. Their annihilation at the hands of Newcastle saw them plummet six points adrift of the top four, with fourth-place Manchester United boasting two games in hand over them.

The two sides will go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night, with another defeat set to all but end Spurs' chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Gibbs, who played 491 times for Watford during his playing career, boasts coaching experience with the Hornets, Reading, Millwall, Swansea and Portsmouth.
He also served as assistant manager under Brian McDermott at Elland Road between 2013 and 2014. Gibbs oversaw Leeds' 5-1 win over Huddersfield Town in February 2014 as caretaker manager following McDermott's dismissal and left the club in July 2014.
Leeds United host Tottenham on the final day of the Premier League season in what could be a vital match for both clubs.
