MUMBAI: Ever since India clinched a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Indian hockey fans have started to dream big. Could they do something special at the FIH World Cup, which gets underway at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in Odisha from Friday?
On Wednesday, at an event organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM) at Don Bosco High School, Matunga, three former India stars from different eras – ex-captain MM Somaya and ex-goalkeepers Adrian D'Souza and Edgar Mascarenhas – analysed India's prospects at the prestigious event. India are placed in Group D, with England, Spain and Wales being the other teams. "Going by a couple of indicators — we are ranked 6th in the world — and judging by how we've done in the tournaments after the Olympics, we've done reasonably well. I'm not saying that we're going to win the trophy, but I think we are good medal contenders," said Somaya.
