Former Hamilton boss named Alloa manager as Nottingham Forest hero returns to football

Former Hamilton Accies head coach Brian Rice is back in football as the manager of League One club Alloa Athletic.

The Wasps have been on the hunt for a new boss to revive their season following relegation from the Championship last season and Barry Ferguson's resignation from the helm.

Alloa have a track record of handing upcoming coaches a chance - including Jack Ross and new Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin - but have opted for experience in Rice.

A hero at Nottingham Forest in his playing days, the 58-year-old has been a coach at Falkirk, Inverness, Hibs and St Mirren.

He took over as Hamilton head coach in 2019, his first role as the leading man. Rice kept the New Douglas Park club in the Premiership before relegation last year, and he resigned in the summer.

Rice's new team sit seventh in League One and four points above the relegation play-off spot.
