While the Great British Bake Off is not often known for bringing drama and is usually watched for pure escapism and light relief, one former contestant caused a bit of a stir when she clashed with professional baker Paul Hollywood. Ruby Tandoh competed in the 2013 series of Bake Off and later went on to have a public spat with judge Paul.
Nine years on from her appearance when she was just 21, Ruby is unrecognisable from her Bake Off days going from natural brown curly hair and very little make-up to longer violet-coloured hair and more dramatic make-up. Before this Ruby sported a shaved head.
After competing in Bake Off, Ruby went on to have a public feud with Paul when she called him a "walking gammon joint" and a "peacocking manchild", and accused him of "lingering where the money is" after the show moved from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2016.

During the 2013 series, many viewers commented on the 'chemistry' between Ruby and married Paul but Ruby also took a swipe at this and reignited the feud when she came out on Twitter. She said: "For those who thought I fancied Paul Hollywood or that I’d ever bang him to get ahead - JOKE’S ON YOU, YOU MASSIVE S******G MISOGYNISTS."
Paul hit back at this comment and said: "Very happy for you Ruby... but why do you feel it necessary bringing me into your announcement?" as BirminghamLive reports. Currently Ruby still bakes and she has released a number of cookbooks.
The new series of Bake Off kicked off on Tuesday, September 13 despite fears it may have been delayed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. In the first episode, the show was dedicated to Chloe Avery who worked on the production team for Bake Off and passed away from cancer in August 2022.
Will was the first contestant to leave the 2022 competition as his showstopper cake was overbaked. You can keep up to date with who has left Bake Off here.
