A former garda who investigated sex crimes has been arrested over an alleged rape during his time working in the force.
The ex-detective was arrested this afternoon and was being held in custody for questioning this evening, reports The Irish Mirror. He was being questioned under the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act 1990 at a Dublin Garda Station.
The Irish Mirror can reveal that the retired garda held a role in a unit that probed sexual and domestic abuse crimes. "These allegations are a big shock given that the former garda member would have investigated sex crimes," a source said.
