Former federal MP Craig Thomson has represented himself in court on the New South Wales Central Coast, accused of multiple apprehended violence order (AVO) breaches against his former wife.
Police took out the order against Mr Thomson on behalf of his ex-partner in December after he was accused of sending a series of abusive and threatening text messages.
The 57-year-old was charged with three counts of contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO in recent weeks and spent Saturday night in custody.
Police confirmed Mr Thomson was arrested at Terrigal Police Station on Saturday afternoon and refused bail.
He was granted conditional bail in Newcastle Local Court on Sunday.
Mr Thomson faced Gosford Local Court for several matters on Tuesday, including the AVO breaches, as well as his bid to vary the terms of the order so he could see his three children.
Before proceeding any further, the magistrate "strongly advised" him to get a lawyer, saying he would be in "a better position" once he had received legal advice.
Mr Thomson agreed, saying he "didn't have a problem [with that] at all".
The cases have been adjourned until February 5.
