A former farmer has been presented with an MBE for his services to the Dunning community.
Ian Philip was granted the honour in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List 2022 and was presented with his medal by Lord-Lieutenant Stephen Leckie at a ceremony in the Civic Lounge at 2 High Street on Monday, June 20.
Mr Philip has worked tirelessly for the village community since he retired from farming three decades ago and is very much “the heart and soul” of Dunning.
Ian played a key role in the drive to build a community pavilion at Rollo Park in 2010 and for a pathway to be laid at Kincladie Wood to make it easier for people to enjoy walks in the area.
Kincladie Wood, Dunning’s community woodland, came into community ownership in 2006.
Volunteers and members of the Dunning Community Trust manage the wood on behalf of the village and for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Ian continues to serve as chair of the Rollo Trustees and spent six years with the Dunning Community Trust.
He also regularly winds the clock at St Serf’s Church and hosts annual ceilidhs to thank the migrant workers who bring in the harvest.
Mr Leckie said: “As Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross and on behalf of the Queen, it is an absolute privilege to have presented Mr Philip with his MBE.
“He’s a passionate supporter of Dunning and I’m sure everyone in the village would agree this is a fitting reward for all his hard work and community spirit.”
Sue Jardine Paterson DL officiated in her deputy lieutenant role at the ceremony, which was also attended by Provost Xander McDade who hosted a civic reception to mark the occasion.
Provost McDade said: “Ian’s passion, commitment and dedication to the village of Dunning is recognised by the presentation of this prestigious, and truly deserved, award.
“Without people such as Ian, our communities would not be so full and vibrant.”
