PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands has said Liverpool would be a “good partner” to do business over a transfer for one of their star players.
Over the summer, the Reds were linked with a host of potential new signings. Midfield was the main area of the pitch where the argument for greater reinforcements was made.
However, one player who was tentatively linked with a move to Anfield was Cody Gakpo. The PSV forward has impressed in the Eredivisie, and has attracted interest from a host of clubs.

Manchester United and Leeds were the two clubs credited with the strongest interest in signing Gakpo over the summer. But in the end, the 23-year-old would remain in Eindhoven, and now the club’s main transfer chief has addressed the player’s future.
Brands, who only left his role as director of football at Everton last December, has issued an update on Gakpo’s future. The PSV chief claims that, while he is unaware of Liverpool’s intent regarding the forward, he claims he would not be surprised if the Reds are interested in the player.
"Liverpool is a club that is always very focused,” Brands told ESPN NL . “Sometimes they get players for the next season in November.
“Would they be a good partner to send Gakpo in the summer? Yes, that's right.”
Brands went on to confirm that both Man United and Leeds were interested in signing Gakpo, with an offer being made for the player. However, the former Everton chief added that if a club was to meet their valuation for Gakpo then an agreement could be reached.
"Leeds United offered €30 million with €11m as a bonus,” Brands said. “Six of them were to be payed if Leeds reached the Champions League.
“People said and wrote a lot about this, but no one within the organisation of PSV wanted to accept this.
"If United offered the money that we wanted to have for Cody, then we would’ve sold him. You can not stop him then. With bonuses we wanted to go up until €50m."
Brands added: "An agreement has been made with Cody and his management, we cannot ignore that.
“It is not a clause, but if the right club offers the right amount, then it is an option. Whether we already have an adequate replacement in mind? Of course there are always lists of names that we look at."
