Seth Meyers discussed Donald Trump’s unfortunate week of Jeffrey Epstein reminders from his attendance at the White House correspondents’ dinner to being heckled in Michigan.
On Late Night, Meyers spoke about Trump’s “rough reception” at the past weekend’s dinner where his comedy routine was universally ridiculed.
“Even the crickets in attendance sat quietly wondering when the jokes were gonna start,” he said.
Trump also had to sit and watch journalists win an award for uncovering his deeper relationship with the criminal financier Epstein.
He then retreated to the “safety and comfort” of a Maga rally in Michigan where he told the crowd that he has done more for them than their parents. Meyers called this “cult leader-coded” but said that Trump continued to say “a lot of weird stuff” to the crowd.
But while there, a heckler called him a “paedophile protector”, which is the same phrase shouted at Trump when he was in Michigan earlier this year.
“If that heckler keeps it up, Trump might have to sit there while he wins an award,” Meyers said.
Trump called him a communist, which is “not a great comeback” but Meyer said that wherever he goes, he “just can’t get away from this Epstein thing”.
This week also saw the funeral of Lindsey Graham, where Trump was seen struggling to keep his eyes open. Meyers joked that he “looks like me after I’ve had three White Claws at the beach”.
The host suggested he should try to get eight hours sleep “instead of posting AI slop at 3am”.
Trump has also been claiming that Iran has been begging him to take a deal, saying that he was called up and asked to please stop the ongoing attacks. Meyers joked that “of all the conversations that never happened that one is the most that never happened”.
After this, Iran launched an attack on US forces so Trump’s claim was “obviously not true and even Fox News was confused”, with hosts asking him what was happening.
“Even the president’s biggest supporters are asking him where he got his information,” he said.
Meyers added that “not only are we mired in exactly the kind of war Trump promised to keep us out of but now it seems like there’s no end in sight” while “prices for everything are soaring”.
