Former public toilets in the city centre of Edinburgh are due to be transformed into a luxury cocktail bar due to open in the next few months.
The Herringbone which has locations in North Berwick and in Trinity have started to convert communal lavatories located on the corner of London Road just off of Easter Road.
The watering hole, which serves many craft beers, wines, concoctions and food, will be supplied with locally sourced produce and aims to serve the local community.

Ash Bairstow, operations director of the Herringbone is originally from Cape Town, South Africa. He visited Edinburgh in 2007 and “fell in love” with the capital city. He said: “We are hugely excited, not only for the location but it’s also an opportunity for us to move the Herringbone on in a new location.”
“We’ve got a fantastic outdoor area that we have not had before and with the support of Buzz works I am looking forward to see how the community receives it.”
“It’s fantastic to see how a disused building in such a nice community like Abbeyhill can be reproposed into something that will really benefit the local community.”
The Herringbone originally opened in North Berwick in 2014 and took over the famous location of the quarter deck.
The 41-year-old South African said: “We had the idea of creating an honest, all day, every day, reasonably priced venue for the community in North Berwick.”
Ash and his colleagues soon become renowned and then opened ‘Herringbone Goldenacre' which used to be the old RBS Bank and is located on South Trinity Road just off of Ferry Road.
The licence for this new venture was submitted into 2021 and took a year for approval with the bar due to open in the next few months.
