Former East Kilbride boss Billy Ogilvie has taken a coaching role at West of Scotland League First Division club Rutherglen Glencairn.
The 61-year-old, who was in charge when Kilby famously faced Celtic in the 2016 Scottish Cup, has extensive West of Scotland League experience and took a co-assistant manager’s role at Rossvale in December, but left them during the summer.
His close friend Joe Pryce, who is assistant at Glencairn, called Ogilvie last week and asked him to join their backroom team, a move that was heavily backed by boss Willie Harvey.
Ogilvie, who helped out at Glencairn after leaving Kilby in March 2016, told the News: “I’m pleased to be back, it’s great. I did a wee bit before with Willie, just on a part-time basis.
“The opportunity came up after Rossvale, Willie gave me a phone, so I was more than delighted to come back in. I’ve been at Ashfield and Arthurlie, and even done a couple of wee guest roles here and there, so I’ve got a wee bit of experience there.
“I’m looking forward to working with the players. They’ve got some fantastic players.
“ But I have to say everybody else in the league is really strong, too. I wouldn’t say there’s one team that really sticks out, I think it’s going to be a very good footballing and competitive league, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
There is a slim chance Ogilvie could even come up against EK next season with both sides entering into the early rounds of the Scottish Cup in the 2022/23 campaign.
