Former Dunfermline and Airdrie defender joins Hamilton Accies

Hamilton Accies have completed the signing of defender Kyle MacDonald on a two-year deal from last season's League One champions Dunfermline.

The 23-year-old becomes the third summer signing for Accies boss John Rankin, following the arrivals of defenders Lee Kilday and Jackson Longridge.

MacDonald held the Pars win promotion to the Championship last season and spent the previous campaign at Airdrieonians on loan.

A club statement read: "We are thrilled to have tied down 23-year-old defender Kyle MacDonald on a two-year contract.

"Kyle has joined Hamilton from League One title winners Dunfermline Athletic, having appeared 34 times last season."

The club have also used the signing announcement to reveal that Gerry Strain has taken on the role of director of football at Accies.

Strain said: “We’re delighted with the progress we have been making since the end of last season and hopefully the fans will see our ambitions as a club with the calibre of player that we have set our objectives on signing.

“The pain of relegation hit everyone at the club deeply and we will do all that we possibly can to ensure that our fans can enjoy successful times ahead at Hamilton Academical.”

Accies return for pre-season training on Wednesday when they latest recruits will meet up with their new team-mates for the first time.
