A former Debenhams worker has won a case through the Workplace Relations Commission after being made redundant in 2020.
Jane Crowe was awarded a total of €2,280 as part of a test case brought to the WRC. Trade union Mandate has lodged a high volume of complaints in the past from former Debenhams workers over their dismissal when the retailer went into liquidation in Ireland at the start of the pandemic.
The compensation was calculated based on Ms Crowe's weekly gross pay. The former Debenhams worker was awarded four weeks compensation as a result of her complaints.

Mandate has accused Debenhams of failing to consult with the trade union in the midst of the 2020 redundancies. The job losses affected 750 workers in Ireland.
The Debenhams liquidator, KPMG, has argued that it complied fully with the redundancy process. Workers previously protested against the job losses outside the Workplace Relations Commission.
