A retired police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for lying to authorities about leaking confidential information to Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys extremist group. Tarrio was under investigation at the time for burning a Black Lives Matter banner in Washington, D.C.
Shane Lamond, a former lieutenant with the Metropolitan Police Department, was convicted of one count of obstructing justice and three counts of making false statements. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson handed down the sentence after a trial in December. Lamond had been providing Tarrio with information about the investigation into the banner burning.
