THE Daily Record’s former Westminster editor is reportedly set to become a Labour candidate for the next General Election.
Torcuil Crichton is likely to contest the Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Western Isles) seat, the Daily Record reports.
The journalist, who was brought up on the Isle of Lewis, is reportedly hoping to retake the seat for Labour. It has been held for the SNP by Angus MacNeil since 2005.
Crichton worked as the Daily Record’s man in London for 12 years before leaving the paper in 2022.
The paper reported his selection opponent had dropped out of the race, leaving the path clear for him to secure the party’s nomination.
A vote of local members will go ahead this week, the paper said.
Na h-Eileanan an Iar is the UK’s smallest constituency by population, made up of just 20,887 voters.
Prior to firmly switching to the SNP, it had been a Labour seat for nearly 20 years.
