Former Coronation Street actor 'thrilled' at award nomination for pantomime show

Kilmarnock's pantomime has been named as one of the best in the country.

The production of Snow White has been recognised by the UK Pantomime Association as the body announced nominees for its annual awards.

The Palace Theatre panto is in the running to be crowned the best show in the UK in a venue with 500 to 900 seats and is the only Scottish nominee in a field of five contenders.

The Ayrshire show has also been nominated for the best ensemble with Kieran Lynch, Caitlin Mae and Charlotte Jean Moore named.

Imagine Theatre, a firm responsible for producing pantomimes across the UK, was behind the Kilmarnock show.

Ayrshire actor Eric Potts wrote the script and was associate producer for the Kilmarnock pantomime while it was directed by Andrew Agnew.

Mr Potts, artistic director of Imagine Theatre, who also starred in the Kilmarnock show, told Ayrshire Live: "I am totally thrilled with the recognition that the show and the entire team behind it from both Imagine Theatre and the Palace Theatre have received.

"It has been a real joy writing and acting as either director or Associate Producer on the show and we at Imagine Theatre really look forward to developing the panto even further in the years to come giving the fabulous East Ayrshire audiences a real fun-filled,spectacular festive treat."

Ayr's in-house Gaiety Theatre production of Sleeping Beauty has also been nominated with Gavin Jon Wright named as one of the UK's best comics.

Simon Sladen, chair of the UK Pantomime Association added: “After what for many venues was a record breaking pantomime season in 2022/2023, we can’t wait to celebrate the wide array of excellence in the genre at The Pantomime Awards this April.

"Pantomime is one of the most exciting, vibrant forms of theatre, entertaining millions of people each festive season. Thank you to everyone who brings the pantomime magic to the stage and good luck to all of this year’s nominees!”

The Pantomime Awards 2023, in association with Butlin’s, will take place at the Trafalgar Theatre, in London’s West End, on Tuesday, April 11 and will be hosted by Christopher Biggins.
