Former Celtic and Hibs star Gary Caldwell has landed the top job at Exeter City.
The former Scotland defender has previously managed at Wigan Athletic, Chesterfield and Partick Thistle and was most recently assistant manager at Easter Road. The 40-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term deal and will hook up with his new side at the training ground later today ahead of their clash with Derby County.
Exeter gained promotion to League One and have made a solid start to life in England's third tier with the club sitting eigth in the league table. The club are both 'excited and optimistic' for the future with the ex- Celtic defender at the helm. They also thanked interim team Kevin Nicholson and Jon Hill for the work they've put in over the past couple of weeks while the search to employee a new manager was ongoing.

In a joint statement, Nick Hawker, chair of Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, and Julian Tagg, club president, said: “As a supporter-owned club, Exeter City is unique and it was vitally important that we chose the right person to continue our journey. The club is in a strong position, having been promoted to League One and made a great start to the campaign, which sees us in eighth position in the table.
"Gary brings a great deal of experience to our club and we’re excited and optimistic for the future.”
“We would also like to put on record our thanks to interim manager Kevin Nicholson and Jon Hill for stepping in to manage the team over the last couple of weeks.”
