Former Celtic Marcus Smart to miss Feb 4 Grizzlies tilt with injury

The Boston Celtics’ first game vs. Marcus Smart since trading the Flower Mound native to the Memphis Grizzlies this past offseason will have to wait a little longer, with word out that Smart will miss the next six weeks, approximately, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The former Celtics floor general is dealing with what is being called a “severe right finger injury” just weeks after returning from another extended injury absence, and immediately on the heels of a season-ending injury for Memphis point guard Ja Morant. With the Celtics having been slated to play the Grizzlies at TD Garden for the first time this season, that homecoming of sorts will need to wait until the league’s 2024-25 season.

Boston is not slated to play Memphis again this season on either club’s home court, robbing Celtics fans of a modicum of catharsis in the process.
