Former Celtic loanee Charly Musonda completes free transfer to Europe as he returns to game

Former Celtic loanee Charly Musonda is back in football after agreeing a move to Spain.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract until 2024 with Segunda division side Levante with the club holding the option of extending that deal by two more seasons until 2026. The Belgian was on the books at English Premier League outfit Chelsea since 2012 until 2022 before making an emotional exit from the club. He suffered with injuries in the past couple of years and spent a period in Scotland on loan at Celtic during Brendan Rodgers' reign at the club. He initially joined on an 18-month switch but only managed eight appearances at Parkhead, providing one assist.

However, after a difficult spell he has now found a new home as he looks to kick-start his career. A club statement read: "Levante UD has reached an agreement with Charly Musonda (10/15/1996, Brussels) for the midfielder to become a player for the Levante team until 2024 with the possibility of extending the contract for two more seasons.

"Musonda made his professional football debut with Chelsea. Real Betis Balompié was interested in his services and, in the 2016 winter market, the player joined the Betis club on loan.

"In January 2017, the Belgian footballer left on loan to Celtic and in August 2018 to SBV Vitesse. In the month of June of this year, Musonda was released at the end of his contractual relationship with Chelsea.

"In his record we find a Scottish Premiership championship (2017/2018) and another of the Scottish Cup (2017/2018). The new Levante UD player has been an international with the Belgium Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 teams."

Levante kicked off their new campaign in the second tier with a 0-0 draw with Huesca.

Next up is an away trip to Zaragoza before they host Tenerife.
