Former Bristol Rovers striker and defender find new clubs after being released

Former Bristol Rovers players James Daly and Mark Little have quickly found new clubs after being released at the end of the season.

Striker Daly and defender Little were let go by Stevenage and Yeovil Town after disappointing seasons, but they have quickly secured their futures for next term.

Daly, aged 22, has dropped out of the EFL and joined National League Woking. Thirty-three-year-old Little, meanwhile, has signed for Welsh Premier League side Penybont.

Former Crystal Palace prospect Daly, one of the first signings of Ben Garner's time in charge of the Gas, showed some signs of promise with four goals early in the 2020/21 season. But like his team in general, the striker's form faded and he was allowed to join Stevenage on a free transfer after Rovers' relegation.

His move to the Lamex Stadium led to him playing under three managers in a turbulent season, scoring just once in his 19 appearances for the club as they battled to avoid relegation. Steve Evans' side will be playing in League Two next season, but Daly will not and Woking boss Darren Sarll is excited to work with him.

"James is a player I have always admired," Sarll told his club's website. "He comes with a great pedigree having been at Crystal Palace, being head-hunted by Bristol Rovers, and subsequently Stevenage."

"Like most young players, James has a real thirst for game time, ambition and achievement.

"And that's what we've signed in James - an incredibly determined and athletic left-footed forward, who will thrive at Woking with the coaching and opportunities he will get here."

Little has racked up more than 350 EFL appearances over his career, playing for the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Peterborough United, Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers before joining the Gas in 2019.

His time in BS7 was marred by injuries, limiting him to just 23 appearances across two seasons before being released after Rovers' relegation to League Two. He endured similar frustrations since Yeovil a year ago, suffering an injury in pre-season that delayed his debut until January.

Nineteen appearances would follow for the Glovers, but former Gas academy manager Chris Hargreaves, now in charge at Huish Park, released the veteran defender, who will be playing in the Welsh top flight next term.
