Bristol Rovers player development coach Rhys Carr is joining Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers having tendered his resignation at the Gas.
Carr, who also spent six years with Bristol City in a number of roles, was brought to the club by Chris Hargreaves earlier this year to work with Rovers academy players in their rise through the age groups.
After resigning last week, Carr posted on Twitter that he has accepted the position of Individual Development Coach at Wolves and will begin work next week, with the Premier League club returning for pre-season.
Speaking about his decision to leave the Gas, Carr posted on social media: “I’ve made the difficult decision to resign from my role as lead PDP coach at Bristol Rovers.
“Despite only being in post a short time, I was made to feel really welcome at the club and made some strong connections with both players and staff so this isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly.
“Seeing a talented group of U18s progress both as players and with their personal values over the last six months or so, has been really pleasing.
“Sitting in the stands with my eldest son watching those seven goals go in on the final day and the celebrations that followed is something we won’t forget.
“I want to wish everyone at the club all the best for their futures and will be keeping an eye on their progress from a distance. Looking forward to what’s next, Rhys.”
With Alfie Kilgour established for several seasons as a first-team player, Luca Hoole making the breakthrough last term and teenage goalkeeper Jed Ward part of the senior goalkeeping group, Rovers have a number of academy players on the periphery of Joey Barton’s squad and could be involved over the next 12 months.
Wing-back Ryan Jones spent the second half of last season on loan at Bath City and is expected to join the first-team squad for pre-season, as is forward Harvey Greenslade who signed a first professional contract at the club last summer, along with defender Jamie Egan. The latter two having been regulars in the Under-18 set-up during Carr’s time in north Bristol.
Brian Dutton has been Rovers’ academy chief since March following the departure of Hargreaves, who has subsequently been installed as Yeovil Town manager.
