A former Big Brother star has revealed that he is standing for Reform UK in Thursday’s local elections.
Alex Sibley, who starred in the third series of the reality show in 2002, is campaigning for a seat for Emerson Park in Havering, East London.
Looking unrecognisable from his time on the show, Mr Sibley shared his new career move with a post on Instagram just days before the polls opened.
He shared a photo of himself posing alongside fellow Reform candidate David Johnson, with both wearing a giant blue election rosette pinned to their jackets.
The post was captioned: “It’s Official. 7th May 2026. With a combined age of 126 years old and no degree from Oxford or Cambridge in Politics, we are Emerson Park candidates for Havering and Reform UK.”
The local residents’ association is currently in charge in Havering, but in a minority administration.
Mr Sibley, 47, is up against Ghazala Ansari for the Greens, Balwinder Singh Khaira for Labour and a joint ticket of Bernice Robinson and Dominic Noel Swan for the Conservatives.
He first came to fame when he entered the Big Brother house with the late Jade Goody, Alison Hammond, and Kate Lawler, who went on to win the show.
After leaving the house, he did some modelling and television presenting, with stints on Nickelodeon and Celebrity Bling Date.
Bleach company Domestos snapped him up for an advertising campaign, earning him £250,000, following his obsession with hygiene while on the reality show.
However, he stepped away from the limelight after a butcher Kurt Lange, 63, was killed after he ran in front of Mr Sibley’s BMW in Essex in 2004.
Mr Sibley denied driving dangerously and the case was dropped in 2006 due to insufficient evidence.
In 2020, he admitted his TV career was destroyed after the crash, telling the Sun: “A major thing happened in my life. A guy ran into the side of my car and died from his injuries.
“I lost my kids TV programme. I had a live show on Nickelodeon, and I was about to do panto.
“If you Google me it will say I was involved in an accident where someone died. It wasn’t my fault though, but it’s stuck. All I did was go to pick up my friend from the airport, and the police completely destroyed my career.
Mr Sibley is now married to a French ballerina and has four children.
