Former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker says he hopes the "relentless hounding" of Phillip Schofield will stop as the fallout from his affair continues. The former ITV host was forced to leave This Morning after he admitted lying to his colleagues and management agency about having a relationship with a younger man who worked on the programme.
Since then, former colleagues including Eammon Holmes have given media interviews describing a "toxic" atmosphere at This Morning and making several accusations against Phillip Schofield. Phillip then gave two interviews in which he explained the toll the scandal was taking on his mental health, Birmingham Live reports.
Speaking to the BBC, Phillip said: "Do you want me to die? Because that is where I am. I have lost everything.
What three words would you use to describe Nottinghamshire? Let us know here.
"My daughters saved my life...they haven't left me for a moment. They have been by my side every moment because they are scared to let me out of their sight...if my girls hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here because I don't see a future."
Former BBC Breakfast star and Channel 5 News presenter Dan Walker has now spoken out about the scandal in a post on social media. He wrote: "I really hope the issues at This Morning are investigated and resolved. I hope that the individuals involved get the help they need and the show stays on air.
"I also hope the relentless hounding from some elements of the media stops. People are clearly on the edge."
Phillip's former co-presenter Holly Willoughby will make her first appearance on This Morning on Monday (June 5) since news about the affair broke. She will be presenting alongside This Morning regular Josie Gibson.
The Sun on Sunday has reported that Holly will begin Monday's programme by delivering a statement about Phillip's affair. The following week will see ITV bosses including CEO Carolyn McCall facing questions from a committee of MPs about the incident.
