In a bid to secure the California Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Republican former baseball star Steve Garvey is making a last-minute effort to garner Latino support in his campaign against Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff. The race, largely overshadowed by other competitive Senate contests across the country, has seen Garvey investing $5 million in advertising targeting the Latino community, with a focus on issues such as inflation, gas prices, crime, and high taxes.
Despite the uphill battle faced by Garvey, given the significant Democratic advantage in California, Schiff has maintained a lead in both polling and campaign finances. The state has not elected a Republican to the Senate since 1988, highlighting the challenge for Garvey in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans nearly 2-to-1.
