A former ambulance has been seized by police after its new owner used it to force their way through traffic and red light junctions.
The vehicle had somehow been obtained by a member of the public, still with full ambulance markings, and was being used to run red lights, T he Liverpool Echo reports.
Police in Merseyside, Liverpool, were notified that a member of the public had purchased the vehicle, shortly before officers saw the person using it to take priority over traffic and signals.
Writing on their Twitter account, officers from Knowsley said the driver had been reported and the vehicle had been seized.
Commenting on the bizarre incident, they added "Leave it to the professionals".
The full online statement read: "Knowsley officers received information that an ex-ambulance vehicle had been purchased by a member of the public.
“Officers observed the vehicle forcing its way through traffic and red light junctions.
"The driver has been reported and the vehicle seized."
Commenters questioned how a member of the public had obtained a vehicle which still had full ambulance markings.
One person wrote: "One has to question the authority that sold it without removing emergency equipment and badges”.
A second person added: "Surely livery and emergency lights should’ve been removed prior to sale. Problem solved".
Just last year, an "idiotic" driver was jailed for taking a family to Asda in a second-hand ambulance that had its emergency lights flashing.
Blessing Mukaukirwa, 32, was caught driving the previously used emergency vehicle into the supermarket's car park in Harpurhey, Manchester, at about 10pm on Wednesday.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he was disqualified from driving and the ambulance's blue lights were flashing when it pulled in.
Officers watched as Mukaukirwa and a family climbed out of the vehicle and walked into the supermarket to do their shopping, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Officers then saw leave the vehicle with a family before they went into the supermarket to do their shopping.
Police tracked them down and discovered that Mukaukirwa was banned from driving and also wanted to be dealt with at court.
Mukaukirwa, of no fixed address, was arrested and appeared at Manchester Magristrates' Court on Thursday.
Police charged him with driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, using a vehicle with unauthorised blue lights and failing to appear in court.
He was jailed for 32 weeks.
