Four former Amazon warehouse workers in upstate New York have filed a proposed nationwide class action accusing the company of denying pregnant employees basic accommodations, such as a chair and extra breaks, and of penalizing or firing workers after pregnancy-related breaks, absences and hospital visits. Amazon denies the allegations.
The lawsuit was filed Sept. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn by the worker advocacy group A Better Balance and the law firm Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel, according to A Better Balance's announcement of the class action lawsuit. It claims Amazon violated the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and New York law. None of the claims have been proven in court.
