Former Alloa Athletic kid nets on long-awaited debut but Wishaw boss left frustrated by Glasgow Perthshire result

David Dunn’s Wishaw side were left undone by some familiar failings on Saturday, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Glasgow Perthshire.

The Beltane Park boss was cursing individual errors once again but he was pleased to see 19-year-old Reis Webster grab a debut goal, with the former Alloa midfielder having spent most of the season on the sidelines with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Webster grabbed what proved to be just a consolation from the penalty spot in the second half and that was one of the few positives Dunn could take from the defeat as his side remain outside of the relegation zone in West of Scotland Second Division on goal difference.

He said: “We had a few boys missing so it was a chance for a few boys to step up to the mark, so I was quite excited by the team. But we never really started the game well and lost two silly goals before half-time.

“There wasn’t a lot in the game but we’ve gifted them two goals by not doing basic defending.

“Individual errors have been our Achilles heel all season so that’s not good enough.

“We came out in the second half and got a wee jag from the boys. Reis came off the bench and scored to get us back in it, so I was delighted for him.

“He has worked hard to get back in and has had to be patient. We put him on for the last 20-30 minutes.

“He was keen to get about and make an impact. He was the first one to grab the ball when we got the penalty and, fair play to him, he stepped up and scored it.

“But we’ve lost another silly goal near the end from another mistake.

“It’s small margins in this league and when you are not doing the basics properly, you are going to struggle.”

A trip to Craigmark Burtonians now awaits for Wishy and it will be the first time the sides have met this season.

Wishaw will be boosted by the return of some key players, but defender Scott Nicol misses out as he is serving a four-game suspension.

Dunn added: “We just need to dust ourselves down now. We’ve got a hard game down at Craigmark now and they are doing well.

“We haven’t played them this season yet so it is a bit of an unknown for us.

“There will be a few boys back who were missing on Saturday so that will help having them back in contention.

“Kieran Brannan,Jonathan McPhee, Aiden Ward, and Davie Collins will be back. Scott is the only one missing. He went over the booking threshold and then got a second sending off of the season, so he got a four-game ban and won’t be back until April 1, which is a big blow because he’s been playing well.”
