Former All-Pro Announces NFL Retirement Decision With Touching Video

Former All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is hanging up his cleats and retiring from the NFL after 11 professional seasons.

McCoy announced his decision to retire with a video on his personal Twitter account, which showed highlights and pictures of the All-Pro during his playing days.

The Buccaneers selected McCoy with the No. 3 pick in the 2010 draft out of Oklahoma, and he spent nine of his 11 professional seasons in Tampa. He was named to five Pro bowls, and was a first-team All-Pro selection once and a second-team All-Pro selection twice as a member of the Buccaneers.

McCoy played for the Panthers in 2019, where he recorded 37 combined tackles and five sacks. That year in Carolina proved to be McCoy’s final productive season as a professional.

McCoy sat out during the 2020 COVID season, and only suited up in one game for the Raiders in ’21. He was not on an active roster in ’22.
