A long-serving former ACT Greens leader and the territory's first dedicated mental health minister has been appointed to lead Lifeline Canberra, a major charity that runs the 24/7 suicide crisis telephone support service.
Shane Rattenbury was on Tuesday named Lifeline Canberra's chief executive, with the former politician saying it was a privilege to lead an organisation with a clear purpose.
