In a joint statement, Rhian and Hester said: “Somebody hold our horses while we get to grips with this wild news - being nominated for a BRIT Award is too hard to comprehend. We never could have expected for our wee band to achieve this.”

The pair became friends when growing up on the Isle of Wight. Describing her upbringing on the island on the music podcast Brightonsfinest, Rhian said there were no live music venues and that she performed her first gig in a house undergoing construction work. She explained: "there was rubble everywhere and the bar was a table."

Their self-titled debut album, released last year, received critical acclaim. The Guardian said it was the "year’s breakout guitar album" while Rolling Stone declared it as a "fantastic full-length debut".

Wet Leg have a busy year ahead of them. In addition to the BRITs, they are also nominated for five GRAMMY awards on February 5. They will be support acts for Harry Style's tour, will be performing at Coachella and the Reading and Leeds Festivals and are special guests of Pulp at their comeback gig in London’s Finsbury Park.
