Notingham Forest fans have sent Steven Reid a message following his departure from the City Ground.

Reid first joined the club in 2020 as one of Chris Hughton's assistant coaches, before stepping up as a caretaker manager until Steve Cooper took over. He will now become a specialist coach in helping individuals with their mental well-being.

The 41-year-old who has certainly left his mark at the City Ground, guided Forest to their first Championship win in the 2021/22 season against Huddersfield. And later contributed to the Reds' promotion to the Premier League.

In a statement released by the club, Reid said: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I am leaving my coaching position at Nottingham Forest and taking my career in a new direction. As those close to me know, I've had mental health and confidence issues throughout my playing and coaching career, which has spanned from League 1 academy football through to the Premier League, World Cup and European Championships. I've been lucky in that I've had an excellent support network around me to pull me through these times. I now want to dedicate my time to being part of that support for any players/athletes or staff who might not have this network in place."

Here is how the Reds faithful have responded...

Thosewerethedays: "Top bloke for all the right reasons, all the very best Steven."

Garincha: "Sorry to see you go Steven you're obviously a thinking, genuine man, a rarity in this day and age. We all will remember your win at the 'udders' mate and that, in my opinion, played a part in starting this fantastic ball rolling, lest we forget. Good luck sir."

Lookwho: "He changed the formation to 352 in his only game in charge, the formation never changed and we gained promotion. Good luck Steve."

Robmacmy: "All the best Steve, thank you."

StewyDeano: "Good luck Steve. That sounds like it’ll be very interesting work."

RedHope2: "All the best Steven. Djed Spence owes you a lot - I still remember you screaming at him to get back into position against Huddersfield when you were in charge."

Oncearedalwaysared: "Top man and will will always be welcomed back to the city ground with open arms all the best."

MonkeyMagic2: "Been great to have him on board and a real shame he didn't continue our ride a little longer. He for 1 must've been amazed in the turn around that's been achieved here and he set the ball rolling, back 3 and a win. Onto where passions lie and many players that will benefit from him personally. Top man."

Shaun998: "With a heavy heart we say goodbye and thank you for your tireless work. You started the ball rolling last season with getting us a win against Huddersfield and without that I dare say we wouldn't be where we are now Thank you Steve and all the best for the future."

BoaNoite: "I'm sure you'll always be welcome back here Steve, and let's hope the groundwork that you helped to lay enables us to survive this crucial first season back in the Premiership."

RedDave1960: "The comments above all show the respect and admiration felt for you. We’ll be forever grateful for your contribution, and leaving with a 100% win record is never bad. Good luck in all you do and echoing the above, thanks for everything. You’ll be hard act to follow."

EdwardIX: "I might even go further. That 1 game win against Huddersfield, truly had a major impact on the team. It gave an incoming Cooper confidence that this team could perform and that his work wouldn't be insurmountable. For the players, it gave them belief that they could win away and against difficult teams. That 1 game may not be the 1 moment that changed everything but for sure, it had a major impact for how the rest of the campaign could and would go. Steven Reid deserves every credit for it and does Gary Brazil whenever he was called upon to step in in the past."

Shiftyyp9: "Massive respect to the guy."

Redznec1: "This guy will be sorely missed I rate him very high as a coach and a person, I wish he could have stayed for this season but I wish him luck in his new role. Like Steve Cooper said he will succeed because that is the type of fella he is."
