Forensics officers have been spotted combing a busy city street for evidence following a late night incident.
Police have cordoned off a large area near Easter Road in Edinburgh following local reports that a man was knocked down by a car.
CID officers remain at the scene, near the junction with Dalmeny Street, on Sunday morning after emergency services were first called in the early hours.
And officers were seen packing evidence bags with clothing and blankets that were left lying on the street in the aftermath.
One eyewitness told how he spotted members of the public performing CPR on a man who was lying in the street.
The injured person was loaded into the back of an ambulance and taken to hospital under a blue light escort after being treated at the scene by paramedics.
His current condition is not known.
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
