Forensic teams swarm East Kilbride street in search for murder weapon after man's death

Forensic teams have flooded an East Kilbride street as they hunt for the weapon that ended the life of Alexander Allan.

Officers combed the murder scene to search for clues around the flat block in Ivanhoe, Calderwood, where the 43-year-old was killed.

Police had been standing guard at the scene since Tuesday night as detectives try to determine the events that led to Alexander Allan's death, reports Lanarkshire Live.

This morning a specialist 'drain' team burst open drains while forensic officers raked through undergrowth and looked in bins in the search for evidence.

Alexander Allan was found seriously injured at a property just after 7.05pm on February 7. Paramedics attempted to save the 43-year-old's life, however, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after.

Plain clothed CID continue to go door-to-door and ask for dashcam footage as enquiries continue. It is understood there were reported disturbances on Monday and Tuesday night at the address.

Neighbours spoke of their shock as news of the murder investigation unfolded last night.

One woman said: "I am in complete shock and disbelief that there's been a murder so close to home. It's normally quiet round here, it's very sad a man has lost his life in such a terrible way."

Another neighbour said: "I can't believe this has happened here. I've lived here for decades and never seen any real trouble. It's quite frightening."

However other residents spoke of issues with scatter flats in the street and associated drug activity.

A woman commented: "There are a lot of comings and goings in those flats, lots of drug activity in recent years."

While another said: "I've seen people fighting and lying in the street on drugs. It's went really downhill here with lots of different people coming and going."

And one neighbour said they didn't know Mr Allan but "saw him around" adding that it was "a tragedy".
