The Breakdown:

  • Ford has issued a recall for 422,613 vehicles that may have faulty windshield wipers.
  • The recall affects the 2021-2023 Ford Expedition, the 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty, and the 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigator.
  • These vehicles may have wipers that operate erratically, fail to operate at all, or detach from the vehicle.

Ford has issued a recall for 422,613 vehicles. The affected models may have faulty windshield wipers that operate erratically, fail to operate at all, or detach from the vehicle.

The recall affects the 2021-2023 Ford Expedition, the 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty, and the 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigator. Ford issued a recall for some of these model years in April 2022 for the same issue, but the automaker recently discovered that it was receiving warranty claims from vehicles beyond the original production cutoff date.

The defect is related to a combination of issues. According to the recall report, the supplier, Trico, produced wipers with improperly staked retention plates, which keep the arm head properly seated to the wiper arm. These bad plates could strip the splines on the wiper arms, reducing functionality and potentially causing visibility issues in poor weather.

Issues Discovered In January

Ford first learned of a potential issue in January 2026. As part of the automaker’s 2024 consent order with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which requires the automaker to review recalls up to three years old, Ford discovered "elevated warranty claims for the Expedition and Navigator."

Through February, Ford investigated the issue and decided to expand the recall to include the Super Duty based on new evidence. It wasn’t until March that the automaker uncovered the root cause, according to the recall report.

As of March 16, Ford says it is aware of 1,538 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and three customer service reports associated with the issue. It has not learned of any accidents, injuries, or fires, though.

Ford says it will notify affected owners this month. Ford is still figuring out a fix and inspection process, and it will replace wipers that do not pass.

Motor1’s Take: Wiper blades are an essential safety feature, and those that may fail to operate or detach are bad. Thankfully, Ford is fixing the issue for affected customers. Ford has issued 27 recalls so far this year.
