NEW DELHI: A school building built, inaugurated and forgotten. In normal course of things, Rajkiya Uccha Madhyamik Balika Vidyalaya, located at Joshi Colony, Mandawali, in east Delhi would have been eight years old now. It was inaugurated by BJP MP Mahesh Giri in 2014 for students up to Class Xth. The only reminder of that event is a black slab in a building that is virtually in ruins.
The school never started functioning. The building has been stripped clean. Fans, taps, doors, windows, staircase railings, metal fences and electricity boards have been stolen. The rooms are filled with cobwebs and the floors covered with tell-tale liquor bottles and injections used by drug addicts. An undergrowth of wild grass covers the school grounds.
