After making his debut at just 18 years old, Marcus Rashford burst onto the scene at Manchester United in a manner not dissimilar to the Red Devil cult hero, Wayne Rooney.
His countless successes both on and off the pitch have won the hearts of United fans and the general public over the years. From becoming the first to break George Best’s record for youngest-ever goal scorer in 2016, to successfully lobbying the government to provide free school meals for low-income families during the school holidays – he’s operating as a ‘number 10’ both on and off the pitch.
After being awarded an MBE by Prince William in 2020, Rashford went on to represent his country as part of the England squad for the Euros 2021 – led by waistcoat wonder Gareth Southgate. The team reached the finals for the first time in 55 years.
Now, at 26 years old and with more achievements under his belt than most could collect in a lifetime, the footballing superstar has also demonstrated a love for fashion. Sporting iconic streetwear looks by the likes of Louis Vuitton and Off-White, it seems as though Rashford is making a name for himself as the first genuinely stylish United player since David Beckham – and we’re absolutely here for it.
Curating a meticulous wardrobe is one thing, entering the world of skincare as a young footballer is another realm entirely. Once again, it’s yet another area Rashford appears to have mastered with ease.
His recent collaboration with cult favourite, dermatologist-approved and wonderfully affordable skincare brand CeraVe shows that Rashford truly understands the power of treating your skin with love, and that your products don’t have to contain real flecks of gold to make your skin glow.
We chatted to the Golden Boy to get the low-down on everything from fashion and football to the items he can’t live without.
What are your skincare essentials?
I start with the CeraVe Foaming Face Wash to make sure my face is refreshed without feeling dry, then the Eye Repair Cream and lastly the Ultra-Light Facial Moisturising Lotion with built-in SPF 50 sunscreen - sun protection no matter where you live is really important. Usually while listening to music!
What is your favourite product in the CeraVe range and why?
The Facial Moisturising Lotion with SPF 50+ moisturises my skin while also protecting it from the sun while training. No matter your age, gender or background, taking care of your skin is really important and that’s something I want to use my platform to share. I partnered with CeraVe specifically because that’s the product I use and because of their inclusive price, so people from all backgrounds can use it too.
What are your favourite sportswear brands?
Definitely Nike and not just because we work together. I admire their approach to helping athletes at all points of their career, especially up-and-coming ones (that’s when you need the help the most). I also recently read Shoe Dog and the foundation and story behind the brand blew me away.
What are your favourite streetwear brands?
I love Drama Call, the founder Charlie Bows is one of my closest friends and seeing what he’s been able to build is incredible. I also love Corteiz, Aime Leon Dore, Stussy and Supreme. I went to Pharrell’s first Louis Vuitton Menswear show which was super inspiring and I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for Virgil Abloh and Off-White.
What are your training essentials?
Umm, sunscreen, water, a great playlist and headphones. They help me focus and are a huge part of my routine and that helps me mentally prepare for the day and everything I need to do, including training.
What one item can you not live without?
Books and music really can change your outlook on everything. You can find a book on any topic or story and can learn about a whole world you may have never experienced, or give you an idea/direction you may never have had. I really encourage everyone to try reading in some form: physically, digitally or audiobooks - there will be a book that’s right for you.
The power of books is what inspired me to start my series of children’s books and The Breakfast Club, as I want everyone to feel like they can achieve and be a part of anything.
What advice do you have for budding young footballers?
I know we’ve all heard it before but success doesn’t happen overnight and remember to look after and believe in yourself along the way. Never give up: it’s been said a thousand times before for good reason. No one is an overnight success. It takes years of hard work physically, mentally and emotionally behind the scenes. And don’t forget to take care of yourself and your skin!
With such a busy schedule, how do you relax and unwind?
I make sure to make time for my friends, family and mentors. A lot of them have completely different professions to me so speaking with them and seeing their outlook gives me a wider perspective and helps me switch off.
What are your travel essentials?
My travel skincare, headphones, comfortable clothing and a good book.
