At this point, it’s quite safe to say that the Football Manager 26 launch was terrible. The game received “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam, and most of the complaints come down to the removal of some features, the clunky UI, and a severe lack of polish. Fans have been raising the alarm over these issues since the beta, and Sports Interactive surely has its work cut out.
In the last couple of days, many people also experienced problems with the In-Game Editor, a tool sold separately. The editor allows you to tweak clubs, players, and finances during active saves, giving players more control and flexibility. However, reports from the community suggest it doesn’t work as intended and even causes instability issues.
Everything Wrong With The In-Game Editor In Football Manager 26
Players are reporting a variety of frustrating issues with the editor. For some, saves are crashing entirely, budgeting is broken (leading to unexpected sackings), and attempts to access the editor often lead to crashes. Many were also claiming that essential functionality, such as the ability to edit players’ stats, is missing. It turns out that’s not the case, but the unintuitive UI certainly makes it feel that way.
One player on the Sports Interactive community forum explained how editing player stats works:
You don’t access the editor through the main button on the upper level, but when you are in the screen “Squad > Player Report”. There is another pen symbol to access the in-game editor on the far right, same height as the subheading showing the current page. This opens the menu to change players. There, you click on the attribute panels but NOT the attributes themselves, as that opens yet another screen.
You can see how convoluted that is and how a new or casual player can easily miss this setting when diving into menus. Players in the same forum pointed out how this system is much clunkier than Football Manager 24. Some of the more hardcore players think of the IGE as a “cheat tool”, but that’s not entirely true. It can often offer deeper customization and encourage more creative saves. And at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you feel about using the in-game editor. This is a tool that’s sold separately, and it should work as advertised. Much like the game itself, the in-game editor also has a terribly low rating on Steam.
