Football clubs across West Lothian and Scotland paid tribute over the weekend to Bathgate Thistle youngster Devin Gordon, who passed away last week aged 13.
All matches taking place in the West Lothian Youth Association of Football Clubs leagues held a minute’s silence prior to kick-off, as did fixtures in the senior game across the county including Bathgate Thistle’s match against Armadale Thistle at Creamery Park.
Devin played for Bathgate Thistle Juniors’ 2008 squad.
There was a minute’s applause in the 13th minute in all of the weekend’s Scottish Cup ties including at Auchinleck Talbot, who were playing Hearts - the team Devin supported.
At Livingston, referee Bobby Madden halted play in their clash with Ross County so players and coaching staff of both teams could join in with the spectators for the applause while a banner was unfurled at Motherwell’s game against Greenock Morton.
In a social media post, Devin’s Bathgate Thistle Juniors club thanked everyone for their support, saying: “The club would like to thank everyone for coming together as a community and further afield and showing their support, giving strength and understanding to our 2008 team.
“The offers of professional help, information and messages being received to help guide these young boys (their parents) and their coaches through a time of uncertainty and unknown to them is extremely appreciated.
“We will do everything we can to take care of them and help them through.”
