Footage shows huge wildfire tearing through Peak District as UK battles record-breaking heatwave

A huge wildfire tore through parts of the Peak District, as the UK continues to battle a record-breaking heatwave.

Drone footage shows intense flames and thick plumes of smoke billowing from the woodland. The wildfire first broke out around 10pm on Wednesday (24 June) at Tintwistle Moor and went on to tear through woodland and grassland near Glossop and Tameside.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DRFS) said six fire crews, a water carrier and a welfare unit were at the scene on Thursday (25 June). It said that the fire had affected 400 sq m of land.

On Friday (26 June), the blaze was successfully contained.

“Firefighters are currently damping down and checking for hot spots,” DRFS said in a statement, adding that several specialist vehicles remain on the scene to monitor the situation.
