Footage shows Edinburgh crowd gather in city centre as firefighters rescue pigeon

A crowd of Edinburgh locals and tourists gathered in the city centre while the fire service attempted to free a trapped pigeon that became entangled in a net.

The extraordinary ordeal was filmed by comedian Jordan Stratton, who provided hilarious commentary throughout, as a height appliance was mobilised by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to rescue the bird.

The incident occurred on the High Street where it meets North Bridge, as the video started with the comedian explaining the situation, then capturing footage of the pigeon trapped in the net at the top of Niddry Street.

A crowd of several dozen spectators soon gathered as a cordon was set up by the fire service as one firefighter was hoisted up in the air to come to the rescue of the bird in distress.

Comedian Jordan Stratton, who has 87 thousand followers on TikTok, uploaded the video which soon went viral.

Jordan opens with an extremely confused expression on his face, as he comments: "I can't quite believe what I'm seeing. Em, fire engines... they've got a ladder... for the pigeon? For the little wee pigeon?"

Jordan said that a huge crowd, as well as a bus, stopped to witness the ordeal. (@Jordanstrattoncomedy)

He continues: "Scrap every single Festival Fringe show you're ever going to see, this is where it's at." Jordan then films a huge crowd gathering around a cordon to witness the rescue mission, as he screams: "Look at the crowd."

"Everyone's got their cameras out, pigeon: give us a wave," Jordan shouts. As more and more people join in to cheer on the heroic fire fighter using a height appliance to reach the pigeon in distress, a bus even stops, with passengers on the top deck watching on.

"Free that pigeon baby," shouts Jordan as the bird is finally rescued by firefighters, with a loud cheer breaking out from the dozens that had stopped to watch the ordeal.

However, the incident does not have a happy ending. "Oh, oh no," says Jordan as the firefighter is captured carrying the motionless bird that appears to have died following the incident.

Jordan looks on with an awkward expression and concludes the video by shouting: "Anyone want to see a show?" The video was viewed 150 thousand times on the popular social media platform.
