In an age where restaurants and cafes can live or die by their social media presence or the amount of followers they have, it’s always great to see an old favourite just sticking to what it’s good at.
Trendy food spots have popped up across various parts of Co Tyrone and Northern Ireland in general with the latest street food fad or fancy cocktail list.
But there still remains a space for the local favourite, the hidden gem that only people from the area will know and hold dear.

When in Dungannon this week I decided to drop in at an old favourite spot from my school days and see if much had changed.
Shambles Restaurant on the corner of Irish Street and Shamble Lane in the town has been an institution for more than two decades now.
It doesn’t have Instagram, and you’re unlikely to find bao buns on the menu any time soon.
But when I walked in it was as busy as I always remember it being, a constant chatter of local faces stopping in for their lunch fix.
While I’m sure the menu has changed over the years and they will do the odd special, Shambles has always been known for doing a great fry, wraps, paninis and sandwiches that won’t break the bank.
I went for a newer version of one of their southern fried chicken wraps, filled with veggies and a delicious south west sauce.
Served along with a portion of chips, it was a hefty portion and at £6.50 it was worth every bite.
The service was as I always remembered it as well, no messing about but done with a smile.
It’s no frills but I suspect that’s exactly the way they like it - and what has kept people coming back here for 20 years.
Definitely one to check out the next time you’re in Dungannon!
