Adding another book to her long list of writings, entrepreneur-food consultant-author Karen Anand launched her new book titled 'Masala Memsahib' amid a warm intimate gathering on a winter evening in Delhi. The book was launched by Anand and Jamal Shaikh at The Leela Palace in New Delhi on November 24, 2022.
'Masala Memsahib' is Anand's unique cookbook memoir wherein she writes about her travels and experiences across five Indian states, namely- Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. And through this journey, she explores the rich and diverse culinary histories of these places. In this book, Anand not only shares her travel adventures across India but also over a hundred easy and delicious recipes that one can make at home.
Sharing more details about the book, Teesta Guha Sarkar, Editorial Director - Pan Macmillan India, said at the event, "In January this year when we were in the middle of the Omicron wave and gloom was beginning to settle again, literary agent Hemali Sodhi introduced me to the doyen of Indian food and culinary writing, Karen Anand. She mentioned that Karen has written an account of her culinary adventures around India. But it was not a regular memoir; it was also a cookbook. It also has photographs of not only food carefully styled in a studio but of beaches and streets, roadside food stalls, and kitchens in seemingly ordinary homes where extraordinary dishes are prepared daily. As a food writing aficionado, I was intrigued... Soon we had a brainstorming session with Karen and a lip-smacking meal later, we set out to publish this fabulous culinary memoir by India's Masala Memsahib. As she takes us on an exilhirating journey across India's states, Karen also introduces us to mouth-watering local cuisines, diverse eating practices, and fabulous culinary histories. In doing so, she goes far above the tried and tested Indian cooking and brings to us the authentic tastes and qualities of our nation's cuisine.``
Meanwhile, closing the evening on a personal note, Anand shared that in her new book 'Masala Memsahib' she gives glimpses of home-styled dishes from across India.
It is also noted that the delicious starters served at the launch were all from Anand's 'Masala Memsahib', thus giving an insight into what one could expect from the new cookbook.
Also seen at the event was popular Chef-author Kunal Kapur.
