Escape To Freight Island will be hosting its annual food festival Kantina next month, featuring a host of world class chefs and drinks-makers turning up to show off their skills. Among them will be Tom Brown, from the celebrated fish restaurant Cornerstone in London, Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue chef Richard Turner, and Manchester’s own Pippa Middlehurst, aka Pippy Eats.
The event happens over the weekend of June 10 to 12, and will also boast live music, DJs and other attractions. Many of the operators already installed in the sprawling beer garden and foodhall will also be collaborating with other top chefs and restaurants.
Cornerstone’s Tom Brown will be teaming up with Brad Carter’s One Star Doner Bar, Pippa Middlehurst will be cooking with Northenden heroes Mi & Pho, and taco makers Madre will be hooking up with AngloThai to create some new custom menu items.
Butcher, chef and food writer Richard Turner, of Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue fame, will be in town too, working on his new grill concept Carnival, featuring porterhouses, pork chops, and premium ribs, all sourced from the best producers in the UK.
The Creameries’ Mary-Ellen McTague will be hooking up with Ronnie Aronica and Jack Wakelin from acclaimed neighbourhood bistro Bench in Sheffield, while chef Luke French, also of Sheffield’s celebrated JÖRO restaurant, will also be hosting a special supper club.
Drinks-wise, Soho House, due to open a branch of its exclusive members club in Manchester next year, will be taking over The Jane Eyre’s bar with a range of cocktails, while Pomona Island will be bringing along some new beers from its taproom.
Tickets for entry are now free, but you need to make a booking to secure your table - anyone who bought a ticket during the early bird period will get a £10 voucher to redeem on the day, plus a signed programme and a special one-off tote bag.
