Folks Are Sharing Memories Of Chinatown’s Dixon House As Sydney Preps To Lose Yet Another Icon

In some devastating news for everyone who’s afraid of seeing Sydney become a soulless hellscape, the iconic Dixon House in Chinatown looks set to be demolished soon. The building was bought in 2019 and permission for its demolition was granted by the City of Sydney back in 2021. According to the development application, the building is set to be demolished and instead turned into a 17 storey “mixed use development with two basement levels and a communal rooftop garden”. It’ll include student boarding rooms and retail shops. Back in the day, Dixon House was known for both its shopping and its iconic food court, which has been shut for a couple of years now.
