Fofana deal, Gordon desire, Aubameyang confidence and 10 Chelsea transfers still to be completed

Seven days. That's all that remains of the 2022 summer transfer window. And it leaves new Chelsea co-owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly facing a battle against the clock to complete the rebuild of Thomas Tuchel's squad.

This summer, Chelsea have completed three big-money signings for the here and now: Raheem Sterling arrived from Man City for £47.5million, Kalidou Koulibaly was signed from Napoli for £34million, and Marc Cucurella arrived in a deal that could reach £62.5million if certain add-ons are met.

Yet the Blues are far from done. A move for Wesley Fofana from Leicester City remains in the pipeline; what Boehly has to do is match the Foxes' £80million asking price for the 21-year-old, who is currently training with the club's Development Squad having missed a training session last week.

There is interest in Everton winger Anthony Gordon, too. The 21-year-old has informed the Merseyside club of his desire to make the switch to west London but thus far, Chelsea have been left frustrated in their pursuit with offers in excess of £45million and £50million rejected.

Then there is the attack. It's been highlighted in Chelsea's opening three matches of the season that they lack a clinical edge in the penalty box. Tuchel wants to solve that by bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who he worked with at Borussia Dortmund, to Stamford Bridge.

There's confidence a deal with Barcelona for Aubameyang can be agreed upon in the days ahead. At 33 years old, the former Arsenal striker would be a stop-gap signing. However, his goalscoring record under Tuchel and in the Premier League should give Chelsea something they desperately lack.

Boehly may also have to sanction several transfers with the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Marcos Alonso, Kenedy, Ethan Ampadu, Ross Barkley, Billy Gilmour, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech, and Michy Batshuayi all exploring their options ahead of the 11pm deadline on September 1.
