Flying from Dublin Airport to Kerry costs almost half the price of taking the train

The Easter holidays are here and many people will be travelling out of Dublin to celebrate around the country.

Whether you want to drive, fly, take the train or bus, it's important to know the cost difference between your options.

We have calculated how expensive it is to get to different parts of Ireland from Dublin today, including the cost of driving.

This was based on a car with an average fuel consumption of 9.5/100km and petrol at €1.80 per litre.

Here's the different ways to travel from Dublin across the country:

Kerry

The cheapest way to get from Dublin to Kerry today is to take a Ryanair flight for just €19.99.

Those opting to take a train from Heuston will pay €33.99 for their journey but you have the perk of bringing suitcases free of charge.

Buses from Tralee/Killarney/Abbeyfeale to Dublin Airport/Dundrum cost €30 one way.

If you want to drive, a 308km trip from Dublin city centre to Killarney would cost €52.67 in petrol.

Donegal

As no trains run to Donegal, flying and taking the bus are your only options.

Aer Lingus offer a Dublin to Donegal flight for €27.39 while the Expressway bus costs €22.

Driving a 236km journey from Dublin city to Letterkenny would cost €40.36 in petrol.

Cork

There are no flights from Dublin Airport to Cork.

The Dublin to Cork Aircoach bus costs €18 while the train from Heuston to Cork Kent station is €32.99.

Petrol costs for a 259km trip from Dublin city to Cork city would cost €44.29.

Galway

Galway is one of the cheaper cities to travel from Dublin to via bus and rail.

The Citylink bus from the capital to Galway is €13 while catching the train will cost you €15.99.

If you wanted to drive, the 208km trip from Dublin city to Galway city would cost €35.57.

Belfast

There's no flight from Dublin to Belfast.

Train tickets from Connolly to Belfast cost €15.99 while the M1 Express bus will take you there for a tenner.

A 165km trip from Dublin to Belfast would cost €28.22 in petrol.

Mayo

There are no flights from Dublin Airport to Knock.

If you want to catch the Westport train from Heuston to bring you to Mayo, tickets will cost you €17.99.

But the bus will cost you more, with the Expressway service from Busaras to Castlebar costing €24.99.

Petrol for the 235km trip from Dublin city to Castlebar would cost €40.19.
