Flowers left at flat fire scene as touching tributes paid to 'auntie Ella'

Touching tributes were left outside a house where an elderly woman was killed in a flat fire.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Carisbrooke Road in Kirkdale shortly before 4pm on Saturday, March 12, following reports of a fire. A neighbour raised the alarm and called 999 when she spotted blackened windows.

Once three fire engines arrived at the scene, they found a ground floor flat was well alight. Sadly fire crews found the body of an 81-year-old woman.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) has now confirmed the fire was "accidental" and caused by smoker’s materials.

A number of floral tributes were left outside the flat following the news of the elderly woman's death. One arrangement on the floor outside the house paid tribute to 'auntie Ella'.

The note read: "Goodnight and god bless auntie Ella. All our love always, Teresa, Estelle and Amy."

Other bunches of flowers have been attached to fence panels outside the flat. Dozens of ECHO readers also paid tribute to the the elderly woman on social media.

Maria Robinson said: "We live a few doors down from the lady who passed away, it's very sad what happened to her. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends."

MillsMollsMand said: "Aww, so sad. Thinking of her family at this sad time."

Thedoors said: "So tragic..... condolences to family and friends."
