A large grassfire about 90 minutes north of Melbourne is raging for a fourth day in a row and could take several more days to get under control.
The blaze at Flowerdale has grown to more than 990 hectares in size but there are no more reports of damage to property.
The Kinglake community, as well as residents in Melbourne's east and north, have been told they may be able to see smoke on Friday due to windy conditions and backburning.
On Thursday, 71-year-old Flowerdale man Bill Sangster told the Nine network he took full responsibility for the blaze which was a "bloody accident" sparked by an angle grinder he was using on a fence.
He was arrested by Victoria Police earlier in the week but they later confirmed it wasn't a deliberately lit fire.
Fire crews have constructed control lines ahead of potentially dangerous conditions.
The area is under a high fire danger rating, with strong northerly winds expected and temperatures in the low 30s.
