Citrus County is now under a mosquito-borne illness alert. The Florida Department of Health in Citrus County said on Oct. 19 that it has confirmed two cases of locally acquired dengue, meaning the infections came from Florida mosquitoes rather than travel. County health staff and Citrus County Mosquito Control have stepped up truck fogging, aerial larviciding, and localized ground inspections for breeding sites.
For households in Inverness, Crystal River, Homosassa, and nearby towns, a sudden fever with severe body aches should now prompt residents and clinicians to consider dengue, even without recent travel.
